Online seminars on health and safety in the workplace

Two online training seminars will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, as part of the 4th workshop of the National Network of Gender Equality & Anti-Discrimination Committees of Research Centers and Institutes (http://www.gearnet.gr), hosted and organized by the GEADC of Athena Research Center.

10:15–11:15 Theme: Health & Safety in the Workplace “What does Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) mean?” Speaker: Fragkiskos Foskolos (CTI Diophantus)
“Τι σημαίνει Υγεία & Ασφάλεια στην Εργασία (ΥΑΕ);”

Speaker: Fragkiskos Foskolos (CTI Diophantus)

During the seminar, we will define OHS, discuss its objectives and importance for the protection of employees, the ethical obligation involved, as well as the economic benefits for the administrations of research organizations. We will also cover the relevant legal framework. The seminar will address the main workplace hazards (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial, and safety hazards), how to prevent and control them, and clarify the roles and responsibilities of management and each member of a Research Center/Institute.

12:15–13:15 Theme: Mental Health and Work “Why burnout shouldn't (have to) be a badge of honor”

Speaker: Maria-Olympia Katsouli (Athena Research Center)

When exhaustion is seen as proof of work ethic, the "grind culture" is portrayed as the only path to success. But what is the cost? Through a combination of neuroscience, experiential observations, and social analysis, we will examine how chronic pressure for productivity affects brain function, mental health, and our overall quality of life. Furthermore, we will explore how conscious pauses and authentic, high-quality collaboration can become tools for self-care, creativity, and meaningful improvement.

Pre-registration is required to attend the seminars. You can register here.
