Members of the NCSR-D Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee participated in two training seminars organized by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) on Gender Equality Action Plans in Research Centers. The two-day seminars were held on December 1-2, 2022, and May 18-19, 2023, as part of the project "Tackling Gender Inequalities in Research and Higher Education in Greece (GENDRHED)." The seminars aimed to provide expertise to members of research centers to support the implementation, monitoring, and sustainability of Gender Equality Action Plans. Additionally, they offered opportunities for exchanging experiences and best practices among Greek research institutions.

On Monday, March 27, 2023, the event "Women at Demokritos" was held, organized by the Open University and the Municipal Equality Committee of Vrilissia. The event featured collaborators from the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos," supported by the Center's GEADC. Aimilia Smyrli, Marina Sagnou, Penny Sklavou, Penelope Bouzioti, and Eva-Alexandra Salvanou discussed the crucial role of women in science and their broader impact on societal change, with the goal of fostering a more equal and inclusive society.

In celebration of International Women's Rights Day, the GEADC, in collaboration with the Education Office of NCSR "Demokritos," organized an interactive event showcasing the work and careers of the Center’s women researchers. On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, researchers Dr. Anastasia Krithara, Dr. Eleni Makarona, Dr. Penelope Bouzioti and Dr. Marina Sagnou welcomed middle and high school students for an engaging "speed mentoring" session. In small groups, the students had the opportunity to speak directly with the researchers, learn about their professional journeys and explore the opportunities and challenges they’ve faced in the research field. At the end of the event, the students shared enthusiastic feedback about the experience.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, the Gender Equality Committee of NCSR "Demokritos" presented the Gender Equality Action Plan for 2022-2024 in an online event for all Center staff. The guest speaker for the event was Professor Maria Stratigaki, Associate Professor of Social Policy at Panteion University and President of the Greek Society of University Women (ELEGYP). Dr. Georgios Nounesis, Director and Chairman of the Board of NCSR "Demokritos," welcomed the participants. Dr. Angeliki Tserepi, the Committee’s coordinator, then provided an overview of the current state of gender equality at the Center. Professor Maria Stratigaki followed with a lecture titled “25 Years of Gender Equality Policies in Research and Technology: The European Union & Greece.” The session concluded with Dr. Maria Konstantopoulou, a Committee member, presenting the individual sections of the Action Plan, followed by an open discussion with the participants.

As part of the implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan 2022-2024, the first meeting between the Gender Equality Committee and female researchers from all Institutes of the Center was held on Friday, July 8, 2022, in the "Themis Paradellis" Hall of the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics. The purpose of the meeting was to address gender equality issues in research environments and discuss the challenges and obstacles faced by female researchers in the workplace due to their gender.
